It’s not too long from now. We’ve taken the next steps: we put that chip in your head to make you smarter, that plug in your stomach to make you thin, and the drugs in your system to keep you going. People are becoming more than human. And nothing’s getting any better.
You know there’s something going on. They thought you were a conspiracy nut, one of the tinfoil hat crew that thought the same people who faked the lunar landing pulled off the 9/11 job. And then you saw Them. Maybe it was on some ancient message board from the early days of the internet, or maybe it was hidden code in a virus you dismantled. Maybe it was just someone at the end of a bar at 4 AM. You don’t know who they are, or how you knew it, but you saw Them, and you knew: there was a truth beyond this world of concrete and neon. Something bigger. Something above all this.
So you ditched your life. You left your parents or spouse or job or dog. You gave up all your credit cards for cash. You had your identity wiped. You went off the grid and found others searching for the same thing, even if you don’t know what that is yet. You’re not even chasing the white rabbit; you haven’t found the rabbit hole yet.
But it’s out there… the other side. Messengers come to talk to you. They give you jobs, shady things like break-ins, hacks, or worse. They make sure you don’t forget that they’re out there. And so you keep going. This is your one goal, your only goal.
This is Project: Ascension

Project: Ascension is an live action experience where you are the protagonist of the story. Like immersive theater, it is a 360-degree experience: you can explore any of our carefully-crafted locations and always feel like you’re in the middle of our cyberpunk version of New York City. However, instead of watching actors playing their parts, you’ll be one of the lead characters in this story.

On Friday, you’ll attend our workshop in an Off-Broadway theater, where you learn about how to safely explore the world, and what sort of things you can do. You’ll also have the chance to meet the rest of your crew, the other people playing roles in this story. Saturday morning, you and your crew will meet one of your contacts in the streets of Manhattan, and learn the location of The Underworld, a notorious bar that caters to your kind of criminal.
All day Saturday, you’ll have an opportunity to explore The Underworld bar, meet the locals, and if you want, go on jobs that will take you throughout New York City. You might end up in an abandoned parking garage, break into an office, or tail someone through Central Park. At night, everyone will come together for a party, with a live band and an open bar, before you find out who was successful in their mission to ascend.

Project Ascension is a 360-degree experience, meaning you can turn around 360-degrees and never break the illusion that you’re living in a cyberpunk version of New York. You’ll spend time in specially crafted spaces full of neon and grunge, as well as locales set-up for you to explore hands-on. You’ll also have the chance to travel through New York City as part of a curated journey that takes advantage of the island of Manhattan, the greatest set pieces in the United States.
What sets Project Ascension apart from other immersive theater experiences is our emphasis on you: there is no audience here. You are the actors, assuming a persona and entering the world. You control the plot and what happens; your decisions determine the story. Project Ascension takes interactive theater to the next level as you become the star.
Each of you will receive a hand-crafted character to play during Project Ascension. For the course of the event, you will assume this identity. You might be your crew's muscle, trained to fight, or a hacker who has mastered a cyber console. Conspiracy theorists, smugglers, crooked cops and government spies all have a tale to tell in this story.
More importantly, you’ll be grouped with a crew: a group of like-minded characters who support each other. They will be your family, your support, and your partners-in-crime during Project Ascension. The first step towards meeting your crew and receiving your character is to fill out our survey, which will let us know your preferences, requests, and experience.
Project Ascension is the work of Sinking Ship Creations, an immersive theater troupe from New York City. For the past ten years, Sinking Ship Creations has produced over 30 high-quality events in four states and two different countries. Project Ascension brings our unique storytelling abilities to medium of 360 degree immersion.
